Antiaging Health Care
From routine check-ups to sudden illnesses, we depend on our antiaging health care providers. But we must take charge of our own health and wellness. No one else knows how it all fits together.
Regular check-ups with our various doctors, dentist, and eye care specialist are all important to maintaining good health and early detection of anything that may be going wrong. We must design and direct our own antiaging health care programs.
Throughout our lives, we learn to recognize what is happening in our bodies. You may have a recurring problem, such as bladder infections, so you have gotten to know what it is at the first sign of distress from your body. Our doctors can respond once we recognize the problem and ask for help, but they cannot take the lead in our antiaging health care.
Another point worth considering is that of treatment, especially drugs, and how they fit together. For example, if your dentist prescribes a drug treatment, you would want your pharmacist or medical doctor to check for possible interaction with other drugs you may be taking.
Several years ago, during my regular eye exam, my doctor spotted a puffy area on my right retina. He referred me to a retinal specialist who diagnosed tears in both of my retinas which he said were due to aging. He was able to repair the left one during an office appointment by using a laser beam to “weld” a pattern of dots around the tear. I have good vision in that eye with no further problems.
My right eye has been much more problematic. There was a small hole in the retina and a tear going out from it. The doctor advised immediate surgery. He said if the tear was to extend over the macula, it would not be possible to save my sight in that eye. So we scheduled surgery, which went well. I missed work for two weeks, and then I was able to get back to my normal routine.
Over time, I experienced more and more floater activity in that eye. Finally, it was time for another surgery. This one was to remove a floating mass that blocked my ability to see out and the doctor’s view in to check on the macula.
Two years later, when the vision in my right eye had not improved, I had cataract surgery. I was told the cataract developed as a result of the prior surgeries. My vision is poor in that eye, and my two eyes do not focus on exactly the same spot, resulting in double vision. Eye glasses with prisms correct the double vision and give me adequate vision.
Back to the topic of antiaging health, I am thankful my retina problems were diagnosed as early as possible. This emphasized to me the importance of maintaining regular check-ups. I realize we have no way of knowing what may be going wrong if we do not follow a schedule of visits to our health care providers.

The Miracle of Good Health
Recently, I discovered a very worthwhile website by John Debney. He discusses many topics that are dear to my heart, some of which I have not written a word about. You may want to take a look, too.

Longevity and Antiaging Doctors
Finding the right doctor can be challenging. Sometimes we feel we need health care that is centered around us mature folks, but still addresses the body as a whole. Maybe you are considering relocating and hesitate because you don't know how to find new health care professionals.
I've found a very nice website by George Parigian where he provides great information in answer to these challenges.
